Since a huge part of the population lives in far flung areas, institutional births are not always possible. A traditional birth attendant, also known as a traditional midwife or community midwife, is a pregnancy and childbirth care provider. Traditional birth attendants provide the majority of primary maternity care within specific communities.
Max India Foundation supports the Training for traditional birth attendants with Seva Mandir, Udaipur on a regular basis. Formal training and regular education on child and maternal health is provided to the midwives to ensure good care of new mothers.
‘Birth attending’ training was organised across the thirteen districts of Uttarakhand where more than 1400 ‘dai’s were trained during this campaign.
