Kshamtalaya has collaborated with the school leaders and teachers to create print rich classrooms in the two East Delhi Municipal Schools they work with in partnership and support from Max India Foundation, on the Whole School Transformation Programme. The shared vision is to create joyful spaces for children where they feel welcomed and excited to reconnect with learning in physical space when they rejoin school post COVID.
A print-rich environment is one where children get opportunities to interact with many different forms of print. Print-rich schools and classrooms also contribute to joyful learning and display the elements in the learning spaces which supports children learn and engage even in the absence of a teacher or facilitator.
The classrooms and other school spaces are being redesigned in consultation with teachers; designs are inclusive of the curriculum represented through themes covered in NCERT and also include elements to motivate children to practice techniques of Social Emotional Learning, helping them to develop emotional literacy.
Key elements of BALA are also included where children can engage with the designs and practice arithmetic operations and other concepts through designed games on floor and doors.
The display of posters, health and hygiene information outside the washbasin and washroom area, wall art outside the self learning makerspace-Udaan, library, computer rooms are a few things that have been done.
This is to welcome the children to the school that is eco-friendly, colourful, informative, meaningful and to which each and every child can feel connected to and belong.
